This website

This website is built using a mixture of HTML 4.01 and XHTML4.01. Style provided using CSS.

The key design choices are

• the pages will load quickly over both broadband and dialup connections
• that the site is easy to navigate
• works well in popular web browsers and will degrade nicely
• You can adjust the font size without it going crazy

Design

The look and feel of the site was done by Avalanche Design of Stockport. The coding and CSS is mainly ours with some of Avalanche's left over.

Accessibility

This website should be perfectly understandable with the images switched off - if you need to browse on a slow connection.

The main fonts are left at the default size that your browser uses. The pages should still flow if you adjust the font size.

We tested the site in the Lynx text based web browser, and it seems ok.

Browsers

This website is not optimised for any one particular browser or operating system. We recommend Mozilla Firefox as a secure standards based, cross platform web browser.

Technical

We use a custom templating system written in PHP4, using Emacs for text and The Gimp for graphics. We regularly validate the site using the wdg html validator.

Email security

ProVu.co.uk and ProVu.com both publish SPF records in the DNS. This allows your mailserver to detect whether an email apparently from the provu.co.uk or provu.com domains originated from a ProVu mailserver.

Many spammers and viruses use faked sender addresses on emails - SPF can protect against you receiving these fake messages.

Please ask your email administrator or ISP to enable SPF checking on your incoming email.

If you use an email forwarding service for your incoming email, then this needs to support SRS. If it does not support SRS then SPF will block the messages. All email forwarding providers need to start implementing SRS.
