SARK 500 - Modules

Telephony interface modules are add-on cards for SARK 500/Pika Warp base units. You can install two cards at any one time to each base unit (not all combinations are possible however). The modules are generally used to connect a SARK 500/Pika Warp to traditional telephone lines and technologies.

These are custom designed cards which will only work in SARK 500/Pika Warp base units and only using the software drivers provided for this platform (e.g. they cannot be used in a generic PC or server).

Each module comes with it's own plastic label sticker to indicate the port types on the back of the base unit (see pictures).

All modules have been tested with UK BT phone lines. For compatibility with other lines, please contact provu.

4 port FXO (plus PFT)

The FXO (Foreign eXchange Office) module lets you connect analogue telephone lines to the SARK 500/Pika Warp base unit in order to make and receive phone calls through them.

Each module can accept up to four analogue lines and you can install a maximum of two modules in each base unit.

Unlike a lot of analogue boards and modules for VoIP phone systems, these modules have been specifically designed and tested for UK/BT spec phone lines (as well as for lines in other countries). This means that features such as Caller ID and disconnect detection work which was previously problematic for telephony boards designed only for USA spec analogue lines.

Each module has a PFT (power failure transfer) port. This automatically connects the PFT port to the FXO (line) port next to it in the event of a power failure. With an FXO module you would connect a plain-old analogue telephone to the PFT port to be used in emergencies in case of power failure.

4 port FXS (plus PFT)

The FXS (Foreign eXchange Subscriber) module lets you connect plain-old analogue telephones to the SARK 500/Pika Warp base unit in order to make and receive phone calls through them. Instead of buying VoIP telephones very low cost analogue phones can be used, or analogue devices such as fax machines can be connected.

Each module can accept up to four analogue telephones and you can install a maximum of two modules in each base unit.

Each base unit includes a built-in FXS port which is ideal for connecting a fax machine but it operates in exactly the same way as any extra FXS ports added on modules.

Phones connected via FXS ports can be setup as extensions in the phone system in much the same way as VoIP extensions.

Each module has a PFT (power failure transfer) port. This automatically connects the PFT port to the FXS (phone) port next to it in the event of a power failure. With an FXS module you would connect an analogue telephone line to the PFT port to be used in emergencies in case of power failure.
