Key considerations when moving to VoIP
- A telephony system is much more than just an IP-PBX. It is important to carefully plan the network structure for each potential customer. If a network already exists it should be properly audited to ensure it is capable of delivering converged services of voice and data.
- Many ADSL broadband connections are not reliable for business voice use. Most installs should involve ISDN or Analogue lines at least for backup.
- Many PBX systems use proprietary communication standards. ProTalk is based on open standards such as SIP which means it can communicate with other systems based on this industry standard.
- Users of the telephony system in a business with different roles will require different features from their phones. This can be something as fundamental as users needing fixed desk phones and others needing portable wireless phones. It can also mean smaller features such as having more "speed-dial" buttons on the phone. ProVu stock a complete range of handsets suitable for use with ProTalk. Snom phones are recommended for the best user-experience.
- Voice-over-IP is still relatively new technology. As a result there are a great deal of hardware and software offerings available which are best avoided. As with all products ProVu sell, the ProTalk systems are thoroughly tested and based on proven technology.
- British Telecom are currently working on their new network - 21CN. This will be rolled out across the UK in the next few years. This network is based on SIP technology and ProTalk is ready now to work with it.
