December 2009 Newsletter

Baubles

The team at ProVu would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your business during 2009.

We wish you all a Merry Christmas and prosperous 2010.

In this edition we have news of:

It's Back! Snom Jingle Bells Ring Tone

ringtone

Last Christmas, we brought you a 'Jingle Bells' ring tone for you to set onto your Snom phones. This offering proved really popular and we actually provisioned the tune onto over 200 Snom phones on our provisioning server.

Get a little more festive spirit by setting your Snom VoIP phone with a Christmas carol ring tone!

Have yourself a merry little ring tone by browsing to your Snom's IP address and following our easy guide:

  • Choose 'Identity 1' from the Setup menu on the left hand side of the configuration screen
  • Change your Ringtone setting to 'Custom Melody'
  • Into the 'Custom Melody URL' field enter the following address: http://snom.co.uk/jingle.wav
  • Hit the 'Save' key

A screen shot is also available to help you: Christmas Ring Tone

ProVu Expand Technical Capability with New Team Members

provutechsupport

Phew! We're getting busier and busier!

ProVu are continuing to expand in VoIP hardware supply, technical services and ProTalk Sark IP PBX systems. To meet the growing demand and increase our expertise, we have recruited more technical staff into our team.

Introducing the ProVu Technical Team:

  • Tim Bray
  • Paul Hayes
  • Chris Wild
  • Muhammad Bajwa

We hope you welcome the new changes to our support department, already showing results in further improving our customer support.

ProVu Technical Support Improvements

provuhelp

Along with increasing support staff in the ProVu Technical Team, ProVu are continuing to develop internal systems. Some of you will already be aware that we have been trialling our new fast response system which keeps track of customer requests.

This is now being rolled out to all customers and will ensure our reputation for first class technical support is even further enhanced. All calls are now logged, recorded (with ProTalk Sark call recording!) to ensure we keep our eyes (and ears) firmly on the ball. It also allows for us to provide better feedback of issues which may arise to our suppliers.

Improvements We Wish to Make:

  • Follow status of every enquiry.
  • Assign a ProVu team member responsiblity for a task.
  • Avoid two people working on the same problem without realising.
  • Reduce response time, especially on basic technical questions.
  • Prioritise genuine urgent enquiries over more general questions so customers aren't waiting.

FACT: People frequently ring up asking for 'technical support' with enquiries that can be best answered by our sales team. 90% of technical enquiries can be answered by any ProVu employee.

All the above changes are intended to improve customer service. If you have any questions or comments, please do come back to us - we value your feedback.

Snom Tip - Check Your Bootloader Versions

Snom820

Did you know there are two parts to Snom version 7 firmware?

1. Main application (with a version code like 7.3.14)

2. The bootloader (with a version code like 1.1.3-s)

Most Snom users keep their application up-to-date but the bootloader is often neglected.

How to Check:

  • Web browse to your Snom phone
  • Click onto 'System Information'
  • View your bootloader version

The screenshot below has been captured in order to help you. You can see the bootloader version in this case is 1.1.3-u

Bootloader Screenshot Help

Our Findings:

  • 1.1.3-s is OK
  • 1.1.3-m or older needs an upgrade

If no bootloader version is shown, your bootloader is archaic! It would be best to upgrade.

Old Bootloader Symptoms:

  • Headsets not properly detected
  • Extension keyboards not properly detected
  • Phones may not boot up when headsets or extension keyboards are connected
  • Snom300's may show strange characters on screen during bootup

How to upgrade:

If your Snom phones are managed by ProVu, then we can carry out these changes through our provisioning server - please just ask us!

Otherwise, you need to load a firmware image containing a bootloader.
