The Snom PA1 VoIP Public Announcement System - Main Uses

SnomPA1

Last month, we brought you news of a brand new product coming soon from Snom. The Snom PA1 VoIP Public Announcement System is now in stock and available to buy at ProVu.

The Snom PA1 has two main uses:

Public Address System:

Connect a 4W speaker or an amplifier system to the PA1 audio output. Register the PA-1 as an extension on your SIP system in the same way you would any other Snom phone. When you call the PA-1 it auto-answers the call and passes either one way or two way audio (if a microphone is also connected).

Door Entry System:

Using a special firmware version, the PA1 can be configured as a SIP door entry system. Connect a "door bell" push button, external microphone, external speaker then register the PA-1 as an extension to your SIP system in the same way as any other Snom phone. The PA-1 will then place a call to your SIP system so that you can speak to whoever is at the door (even if you aren't in the building). The PA-1 also has four DTMF controlled switched outputs which can be connected to an electronic door lock, outside light or perhaps to activate an IP camera recording.

What would you use your PA1 for? The PA1 is not limited to these two uses, it can be used to "SIP enable" any device which has normal audio inputs and outputs. With suitable relays connected to to switched outputs it could also form the basis of a home automation system controlled via your SIP phone system.

ProVu would like to hear from our customers with any ideas of what you have planned for the PA1. We can assist with custom development of hardware and software features and supply custom peripheral hardware to be used with your PA1.

Gigaset S685IP 'Best for VoIP Calls' - T3 Men's Magazine Review

870

In February's edition of Men's Magazine 'T3', they carried out a number of tests on numerous gadgets and voted the Gigaset S685IP as the product they felt was the 'Best for VoIP Calls'.

Their verdict gave the S685IP 4 out of 5 stars, they claim the S685IP to be 'cheap, business like and well worth a look'.

Not to only give you the good news, they did have one minor grumble. Though you can use the phone for PSTN, VoIP, text and bluetooth, the fact it had no Skype functionality was a down side for them.

Well Skype's a dirty word as far as all at ProVu are concerned ("believe it or not")! We're glad we didn't tick all the boxes of a generic Lad's Mag reader! A great review over all. Thanks T3!

S685IP Key Features Reminder:

  • Dual mode VoIP/landline cordless phone
  • High Quality Colour Display - 128*160 Pixels
  • 2 VoIP & 1 Land Line Calls Simultaneously
  • Register up to 6 additional handsets with up to 6 different VoIP accounts
  • Bluetooth Capability
  • Integrated answer phone with 30 minutes recording time
  • Range: Indoors 50 meters- Outdoors 300 meters
  • Talk time 10 hours- Standby 180 hours
  • 250 Entry phone directory
  • Internal and External call transfer
  • 3 way call conference
  • Convenient hands-free talking
  • Handset can display Internet information services via RSS feeds

Snom Tip - Green VoIP, Calculate Cost and Carbon Footprint

870

2009's March Newsletter reported how a study carried out at a Frankfurt University proved that Snom VoIP Phones are the most economical VoIP phones in terms of power consumption.

The three month testing period compared 23 VoIP phones by seven well known manufacturers.

Now you can see for yourself by using the Snom Carbon Calculator to compare how you can reduce your carbon footprint and benefit from cost savings by using a Snom IP phone, rather than another model.

Snom is a clear eco friendly winner, with the lowest power consumption in every comparable product class, in every scenario; idle mode, conversation and three way conference.

It's becoming increasingly important each year to go green! With Snom VoIP phones you can be certain that you are also conserving energy when making calls. Save money and the enviornment by choosing a Snom VoIP Phone!
